Now being constructed in solid plastered thermal clay construction block this is underway and due for completion March 2016.

WEEK ONE: Putaruru, South Waikato. The building pad is down..with the first two rows going up in just 3 days! Very exciting to see the blocks going up so quickly - and such a clean site! POROTHERM uses 95% less water and has 45% less waste than concrete masonry.
Good to see where the D2 rods of steel are placed at 5m centres and in the portal blocks. Note the alligator saw - cutting through the blocks like butter! Great work so far...
Our first POROTHERM project is almost ready for the exterior plaster. The interior lime plaster, almost finished in Resene '1/4 Aranui' is beautiful & warm. The solid plasterers are doing an amazing job - creating the marbled effect with the troweling is a very special skill.
The Travertine tiling is about to start in the bathrooms with the BOEN timber flooring going down next...this house will be a beautiful thermally insulated home in completely natural products.
We have been able to minimise the use of tanalised timbers & gib by restricting it to the trusses and ceilings. This goes a very long way to retaining a much healthier indoor air quality. We are very excited it is almost finished!
Willowbrook Manor House. This home constructed in Firth Masonry Hotbloc is set on a beautifully landscaped property and is a testament to the vision of it's owners. Willowbrook Park will become a beautiful venue for boutique weddings and functions.

Set on a beautiful equine property, this elegant home with beautiful horizontal lines is about to start construction any day now. This home will be constructed in POROTHERM Clay Block.

The e4 BRICKHOUSE TM is a concept developed by Wienerberger, Austria using the POROTHERM Clay Construction blocks. These homes create an energy-efficient clay block envelope with the focus on affordability and minimisation of running costs. 100% of energy requirements are met by renewable energy sources meeting all requirements of the 2020 EU building directive. This is an Integral approach to building now available for the first time in NZ.
The comprehensive approach of the Wienerberger e4 BRICKHOUSE TM concept is based on four key factors: a massive energy-efficient building envelope made of clay blocks, renewable energy sources, affordable construction and energy costs, and unique living quality. THE CONCEPT - OVERVIEW
The Wienerberger e4 BRICKHOUSE TM is an archetype for the future of UK housing. Designed in conjunction with global engineering and design consultancy, ARUP, the concept has been developed to address the need for affordable, sustainable housing in the UK.
e4 gives Architects, specifiers, builders & developers the opportunity to build homes that not only meet, but also exceed today’s market, environmental and social requirements. Through innovative, future-proof design, Wienerberger have ensured the e4 model will be just as relevant in 150 years as it is today.
THE FOUR E'S
The e4 brick house™ concept is named according to its four founding principles:
To provide a house that is not only financially affordable and accessible but that gives optimum build performance and meets market demand.
The e4 brick house™ will meet current energy standards and will continue to offer a sustainable environment for its life cycle of 150 years plus.
A house that minimises its environmental impact, is responsibly sourced, and meets level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes as standard.
A house that people will want to live in, a house that not only provides flexibility and practicality, but will also allow for a higher quality of living.
Each of these principles have been carefully embedded into the e4 brick house™ and the specially designed sustainability framework used in the building process; from the architect’s designs right through to the cost-effective and durable clay used in the materials and the specialised construction methods used.
KEY ELEMENTS - the 'FABRIC FIRST' approach...
One of the objectives for the Wienerberger e4 brick house™ was to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 without renewables. This was achieved through adopting a ‘fabric first’ strategy. The focus has been on maximising the energy, materials and health & well-being credits in line with Wienerberger’s e4 principles.
e4 achieves 21 of the 24 available credits in the materials section. This is based on all the key building elements – from the ground floor to roof rafters – achieving a rating of A or A+ according to the Green Guide for Specification, Europe.
80% of the materials in e4’s basic building elements are responsibly sourced. The ground floor is made of concrete, ensuring durability and improved sound insulation. The upper floor and roof supports are made from timber (preferably organic, non-toxic) and naturally renewable building material. e4 is externally finished by clay roof tiles and lime-based solid plaster or clay brick facade; providing excellent energy efficiency as well as natural thermal and sound insulation.
We have an extremely exciting project coming up in Cambridge this year with this complex design. It will be constructed with Porotherm Walls and Concrete roofs.
Scheduled to commence at the end of October. It surely will be a design of Grand proportions!
