Renovation Architecture is about working with an existing style or creating a totally new complimentary style. Whether old/new, contemporary/classic, attention to detail is always the best design solution.
AucklandEngaged to prepare a design solution to the perennial problem of modernising and creating more practical living around the core of a what has become a New Zealand classic – the 1960’s Kiwi weatherboard home. The temptation is always to stamp your architectural mark with this type of makeover but at the end of the day the success of this home and its’ design lies in remaining faithful to its’ original persona and the original construction materials. With a degree of open plan living introduced by the removal of some walls and redefinition of new spaces with others this home has plenty of internal privacy, generous open living spaces which spill out to the north onto outdoor living spaces and bedrooms that get the early morning sun but eliminate the heat of the afternoon.
Hawkes BayThis home was originally built in 1968. It sits on the hills above Hawkes Bay and this renovation completed in 2007 - tripled its' size from 175 m2 to 365m2. These photos were taken a couple of years ago now but the look is timeless given the era and the extensions seamless - our clients love it. The site is stunning.
CambridgeOur clients' love of Classic Villa Architecture meant attention to detailing and planning transformed this 1910 Villa into an extension of the same.
Pukawa Bay, TaupoThe Mission House at Pukawa, Lake Taupo, was originally built in 1887. This substantial renovation project began in 1992 and took several years to complete. It was featured in House & Garden Magazine May 2003 and recently awarded Highly Commended in the Renovation section of the ADNZ design awards 2005. By maintaining the original detailed colonial architecture the extensions and restoration has created a beautiful, expansive home of unique quality. The materials used were crafted in the original timbers.
